It’s been 2 weeks since the LA fires. I honestly haven’t had the words to express what’s been happening here. Everyone I know myself included has friends, family, and acquaintances that have lost it all. The amount of loss is unfathomable and heartbreaking. To be honest it’s been hard to go back to life before the fires. This week I am trying to get back to some sort of normalcy. I will say that it has been absolutely beautiful to see LA come together and help everyone in need.
All of this got me thinking about how everyone affected by these fires needs to rebuild their wardrobe. Losing your wardrobe is like losing a sense of yourself. I know first hand how transformative clothing can be. The clothes we choose to wear is an expression of who we are. I can only imagine that every person who lost their home and belongings just wants to feel like themselves again. To put on that favorite sweater and sit in that favorite corner of their house.
The idea of rebuilding your wardrobe can sound daunting and overwhelming. My advice to you is to start small and start with the basics. You can’t build a whole wardrobe overnight. It takes time. But you can get yourself some starter pieces and some things that make you feel like you again. Maybe it’s a red sweater, a pair of gold hoops or a leopard pair of pants. Get some things that bring you joy and feel like a big hug.
Below are a series of boards to get you started and give you ideas. Start with t-shirts, sweaters, jeans, pants, jackets and a few accessories. From there as you get your feet back on the ground and start to go back to work or have social engagements you can add in more pieces.
