Lately it feels like everything we are buying from groceries, to household items and even our clothes is more expensive. A lot of my clients have been commenting on how the prices of clothes have gone up, whether you are buying Zara or Khaite. And it is true the prices of clothes have increased. We are all feeling it.
I do think there are ways to shop smarter and more mindful. One of my number one rules when it comes to buying something new, is to ask yourself if you can wear it three ways? I like to physically style out a new piece when I get it and make sure I can wear it three ways. By doing this, it allows me to see that I will get a lot of use out of this item and wear it a ton. There is no point in having something you will only wear once and will just sit in your closet. Our clothes are meant to be worn and loved!
When we are shopping especially for trips or events I think a lot of us get caught up in the setting and event. I find a lot of people dress for the event and lose themselves. It is important when shopping for a vacation, wedding or dinner party that you stay true to your style and who you are. How would YOU dress in that setting? Whatever you buy make sure you can wear it three ways so you will get use out of it. This allows for pieces that give your wardrobe longevity.
I wanted to give you guys a peek into my process and how I buy new things and use the Three Ways To Wear it exercise. I recently just went to Coachella and had an absolute blast! When I was preparing for my trip and thinking about what to wear to Coachella I wanted to make sure I stayed true to myself and didn’t look like I was wearing a costume. I also wanted some fun outfits! I ended up only buying one new item and everything else I wore were things I already owned. I had in my mind I wanted to wear a pair of crochet shorts. I found these amazing By Malene Birger crochet shorts. Below is how I styled the shorts for Coachella.
MANGO Fringe Jacket , Sold Out NYC Tee, By Malene Birger Shorts, Dorsey Riviere Necklace, Dolce Vita Boots
These shorts were on the pricier side. Whenever I’m buying a more expensive item I like to think about the price per wear. If I know I will wear it a ton and get lots of use out of it, then in my opinion the piece pays for itself. With this in mind when I bought these crochet shorts I wanted to make sure I could wear them at least three ways. Below are three ways I plan on styling my crochet shorts for Spring/Summer.
